About

I’m Alexis Austin, the founder/CEO/momboss behind Curio Press and now the AAA Blog. Most days you can find me in a tank top and yoga pants, in my studio, designing and printing stationery. If I’m not there, you can probably catch me researching health and wellness topics, cooking (A LOT), or decorating our new house.

Over the past 8 years, I have become known for creating beautiful stationery and amazing, personal customer service. Little secret? I also have an obsessive personality…but I use that to give my clients the best experience and product I can. And now I am excited to share all my obsessive researching and experimenting with YOU.

I feel so lucky to have a career focused on connecting people through paper and the timeless handwritten note. Curio Press started as a result of a chronic illness that prevented me from holding a regular job. But I never dedicated myself to getting better until recently. Over the past couple years I have been on a health journey to heal myself and my daughter of chronic illness and we have all benefited so much – it would be irresponsible if I didn’t share it!

As a stationer and small business success, I have been featured by St Louis Business Journal, Saint Louis Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Brit+Co and many more!

If you are dying to hear more, check out my blog posts for info about things like motherhood, living with chronic illness, clean living and of course, how to have great communication!

Well, the flood saga continues into this week. Tha Well, the flood saga continues into this week. Thank you again to everyone for the helpful advice and info!! We have a bunch of things in motion to get this problem resolved to prevent it happening again, but of course since so many homes have been impacted in our area, it is going to take a bit for someone to get out here. This is the photo I had been planning to share this week, and I thought it was fitting to share it how it looks in this moment!
What a week! In case you missed the saga, our base What a week! In case you missed the saga, our basement flooded twice this week. Tuesday was minor compared to the 6 inches that rushed in yesterday - we have started calling Tuesday our "practice flood" because only the edges of the carpeted areas and sections of the LVT got wet. I spent all Tuesday getting most of our stuff out of the basement, so when the Thursday flood came, we were in a much better place than we otherwise would have been.

We have a remediation company here starting the process of ripping out everything that was wet so we can prevent mold. Then I think we may wait a bit before restoring the space and think a lot about how we want it to function going forward. It's going to be a long process and the part that makes me most nervous is dealing with insurance and not knowing if they will help with the costs at all.

Our area had record breaking rain and there are so many others who had way worse damage than we did, so I am just glad it wasn't worse. Everyone I spoke to as well as a lot of you mentioned how calm I seemed...the worse the crisis the calmer I get - it's weird but a great thing in these kinds of situations.

I am so grateful for the outpouring of love and support you have all sent our way this week - it was so encouraging and helpful! Thank you all so much and I will keep you updated! I am actually going to make a video of the saga from start to finish that you haven't seen so stay tuned on stories!
We made a couple less common choices for our pool We made a couple less common choices for our pool area…
POOL DECK: We chose travertine for the pool deck instead of concrete because it naturally stays cool. So we don’t have to worry about adding rugs and hopping from one to the other or adding an extra layer of pool decking stuff on top to keep it cool in the summer. I was a little skeptical, but it is like 104 today and let me tell you that it is true! My deck gets way too hot in the sun, but the pool deck is safe for bare feet!

POOL DEPTH: Our pool only gets to 4.5’ at the deepest. I actually go back and forth a bit on if this was a good idea, but I think I lean more towards it being the right choice for us. I have a handful of painful autoimmune issues and I really wanted to be able to use the pool as a physical therapy pool where I could walk the length without being on my tip toes. Emma HATES deep ends too, so if it was any deeper it would just be a no mans land!
Living room reveal… We ended up with chairs by t Living room reveal… We ended up with chairs by the stairs! This way was a lot more inviting and the flow was better. Emma also enjoys this layout better for snuggles on the couch with Izzy!
